CAMPING & FOOD
The expedition is self catering. Usually we each look after our own breakfast, lunch and snacks and prepare a group evening meal in turn.
We will buy 2 days worth of food and water at the beginning as there we will be able to restock during the route.
Meals in seaside towns, or beach side taverna's, are possible during the whole trip. Usually we prepare our own breakfast & dinner and have lunch in a taverna.
During off season (late October to late April) we will need carry more supplies and wont be possible to eat in a taverna as all are closed.
ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE DATES
You’ll need to meet us at our base on Ilingas Beach, located in southwest Crete.
The most convenient airport is Chania (CHQ). From Chania, a daily bus runs to Chora Sfakion, which is very close to our base. We can pick you up from Chora Sfakion at no cost.
If you’re flying into Heraklion, we strongly recommend spending the night nearby due to the longer driving distance or get a taxi early morning. There is no direct bus connection with Chora Sfakion.
CAN I RENT ALL CAMPING EQUIPMENT?
We can provide all the equipment for camping apart from the sleeping bag for an extra cost. You can get a high quality 3 or 4 season tent for an extra 50€ for the whole duration of the trip and also the mattress. The stove (complete set from Trangia) and gas canister are an extra 30€ and are suitable for 2-3 persons.
WHEN IN YOUR OPINION IS A GOOD TIME TO DO THE EXPEDITION?
All year long as this particular trip is located on a very protected area. Usually the roughest sea is during January and February as it is common during those months to have strong south winds which bring big waves.
